Lecturer beaten up
A temporary lecturer of the Commerce Faculty was reportedly beaten up by a section of students on Wednesday in the campus. According to sources, the students were apparently upto some mischief, when they were warned by the teacher. The students retaliated by chucking pebbles at him, unaware that he was a faculty member, and the teacher apparently aimed a brick at them. Seeing this, a group of students roughed him up, and reportedly bruised him. When another faculty member intervened, the students apologised.

IIM election
Prof K Baba Pai has been elected the eighth chairman of the Vadodara chapter of the Indian Institute of Metal. A press release issued here said that he would succeed V Seshadri to the post. Prior to this, Pai was honorary secretary of the Vadodara chapter of IIM and associated with it for the last 15 years. H J Thakkar and Y I Kapadi were elected vice-presidents, S R Raval was elected honorary secretary and S C Khuran honorary treasurer.

Exim course
The Indian Institute of Export Society has announced a four-month PG diploma course in export-import management. Railway fines
In a special drive under the supervision of DRM K C Jena, Railway authorities collected more than Rs 48 lakhs from ticketless travellers and blackmarketeers during May. About 35,000 cases of ticketless travel and illegal transportation of goods were made during the month. Divisional authorities propose to continue conducting similar drives in the future.
