Governor gets principal secretary
Gandhinagar: S D Sharma, Secretary, the Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities Department, has been appointed Principal Secretary to Governor Sundar Singh Bhandari, relieving K A Patel of the additional charge. Relief Commissioner Vijaysinh Parmar will also act as the Secretary, the Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities Department and Land Reforms Commissioner till further orders. The post of the Governor8217;s Principal Secretary had been vacant since Avinash Kumar8217;s transfer about two months ago as Director General, the Sports Authority of Gujarat immediately after then Governor Anshuman Singh was shifted to Rajasthan.

Grievances
Vadodara: Member of Parliament Jayaben Thakkar will address public grievances for three days beginning Thursday at her office in Lohana Building, Raopura from 4 to 6 pm. On April 4, she will listen to residents of Padra at 10 am in the Padra Assembly Hall.

Grains seized
District supply officials seized grains worth over Rs 1 lakh on Wednesday. DSO Ashok Singh said grains worth Rs 89,000 was seized from Mehta Grain Shop, Waghodia road, while grains worth Rs 23,000 seized from New Jai Ambe Provision Store, Panigate as the shopkeepers did not have proper records of stocks and sale.

IT raids
Officials of the Income Tax directorate raided offices of at least six tobacco merchants in Anand, Umetha and Vadodara district simultaneously on Wednesday. According to official information, it was routine survey.

Power theft
The GEB detected power theft to the tune of Rs 1.09 crore from various parts of the State in first week of March. Of the 15,651 connections checked, power theft was detected in 1,407 cases.
