GEB seeks to meet Pandya
The Gujarat Electricity Board will convene a meeting with State Home Minister Haren Pandya and Energy Minister Kaushik Patel in connection with security of its staff, it was decided at a meeting chaired by Nalin Bhatt on Wednesday. The decision comes two days after its executive engineer R V Shah was murdered in Rajpipla. Senior GEB officials, including Bhatt, will visit Rajpipla on Thursday and meet the Narmada police chief to seek prompt action against the culprits.

Earlier in the day, a large number of Board employees, including Bhatt, attended Shah8217;s last rites in Vadodara.

Expulsions
The Vadodara District Congress on Wednesday expelled four partymen 8212; Sankheda taluka unit president Chandubhai Thakkar, Mahesh Patel of Shinor, Jaykant Patel of Dabhoi and Sudhakar Patel of Karjan 8212; from primary membership of the party for six years for anti-party activities during the 13th Lok Sabha elections.

Dharna
Residents of the Narmada valley on Wednesday began a dharna in Dhadgaon, Maharashtra, in protest against the arrest of Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Medha Patkar and 149 others. They were arrested on Tuesday and taken to Dhadgaon. An NBA spokesman said the villagers thought the issue required a dialogue with the Government and not the satyagrahis8217; arrest.

SBI moves
The Vadodara branch of the State Bank of India Factors and Commercial Services Ltd, which has been operating in the city since 1994, will shift to BBC Towers, Sayjigunj, on September 23. A press release said the president of the Central Gujarat Chamber of Commerce would inaugurate the bank at 10 am.

Felicitation
The Retired Officers8217; Forum will felicitate 1999 SSC toppers with merit certificates and mementoes at a ceremony at Vasvik Hall, Institution of Engineers, Race Course Road on September 26. A press release said the welcome address would be delivered by Dr D B Bhandari and the chief guest would be former MP Ranjitsinh Gaekwad.

Committee meet
The Consultative Committee of All India Radio, Vadodara, will meet in Makarpura on September 22 at 11.30 a.m. to chalk out programmes for the next three months.

Environment talk
Dr J D Desai, senior manager environment and ecology, IPCL, will give a talk on environmental awareness at a function in IIMM Hall, Vishal Chambers, Vishwas Colony, behind Alkapuri Shopping Centre, on Thursday at 6 pm. The programme is being organised by Indian Institute of Materials Management.

Raising day
The fourth raising day of the Triyoga Centre, situated at Prasanna Sadan, 6 Vrindavan Park, Sama Road, was celebrated with gaiety and enthusiasm on Wednesday. According to a press release, 35 Triyoga members participated in the two-hour long mass Triyoga workshop.
