University stir
Some 800 teachers of all faculties, excepting management, engineering and technology and the polytechnic, of M S University will go on an indefinite strike from Tuesday to protest against the Centre’s decision on not paying them as per University Grants Commission rules.

The strike, called by the All India Federation of University and College Teachers Association, will be a nation-wide one and is expected to affect administrative work as well as classes.

BBA strike
Members of the Baroda Bar Association will observe a one-day token strike on Tuesday in protest against the firing on one of its member, Nilesh Prajapati, who was recently appointed first class judicial magistrate at Siddhpur. Demanding a high-level inquiry into the incident, BBA president Narendra Tiwari said Prajapati was shot by unidentified gunmen, while he was on his way to the court on Monday.

Appointed
Rekha Bhatt and Umakant Joshi of the BJP were appointed Standing Committee members of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation on Monday. They have replaced Bharati Vyas and Dinesh Chokshi, who resigned after assuming charge as the mayor and the deputy mayor respectively. While Bhatt is a councillor from MLA Bhupendra Lakhawala’s city constituency, Joshi besides being a party leader in the VMC, is close to State BJP vice- president Nalin Bhatt. Meanwhile, the General Board on Monday formally approved a proposal to divide the city into four zones for effective administration.

DDO inquiry
District Development Officer (DDO) Anuj Sharma will inquiry into the “disappearance” of computers, while entries were being keyed in for recruitment in Vidya Sayah Yojna. According to sources, the computers were taken away a few days ago by a panchayat member allegedly to make some changes.

Memo submitted
A delegation of the city unit of Janata Dal called on district collector on Monday and submitted a memorandum, in protest against the “alleged failure of the BJP government in the State and at the Centre.” Demanding immediate dismissal of the government.
