Ajit Chaudhary, 64, one of the convicts in the Uphaar tragedy, died in Tihar jail on Friday due to a cardiac arrest. In 1997, 59 people had died in Uphaar Cinema during the screening of movie Border. Last year, a Delhi court had convicted all the accused, including owners Ansal brothers, after a long drawn out legal battle.

Chaudhary, former manager of the cinema hall, was lodged in jail number 1 at Tihar and according to officials was not keeping well for a long time. 8220;Today, his condition deteriorated in the morning. He was first checked in the jail hospital after which he was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where he died around 3 pm,8221; said a jail official. His body has been sent for post-mortem.
