UPA will return to power, predicts Vora

Urges ministers to lay emphasis on booth-level management; says process of preparing reports cards of Haryana ministers underway

Under Sonia Gandhi8217;s leadership, the UPA is poised to come back to power in the next Lok Sabha polls, claimed Motilal Vora, AICC treasurer and incharge of Haryana Congress affairs.

Addressing a press conference here today, Vora said the results of the six Assembly results were very encouraging and had given hope to the party. He said the Congress will submit the updated voter lists to the Election Commission on January 10.

With regard to the report card of Haryana ministers being prepared by him, he said three ministers had already sent details of their appraisal and the rest would do so soon.

Earlier, addressing a meeting of the HPCC and District Congress Committee members, Vora asked partymen to lay emphasis on management at booth level, as it holds the key to victory in the elections.

Vora said the Election Commission had issued instructions to all political parties on appointing booth-level agents for 8220;correction8221; of electoral rolls and in this regard Haryana was the first state to get into the act. The agents, three of whom will be appointed at booth level, were required to scan the voter lists and point out errors that might have crept in, with the deadline being January 10.

Vora had convened a meeting of the party executive here today to settle the issue of appointing booth level agents.

8220;I have seen very few states where enormous development in different spheres has been undertaken in such a short span,8221; he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda asked MLAs to devote time in constituencies. With an eye on Lok Sabha polls, Hooda sent out a tough message to party legislators to start devoting time in their respective constituencies and redress people8217;s grievances.

HPCC president Phool Chand Mullana, Finance Minister Birender Singh, Education Minister Mange Ram Gupta, MP Dr Ram Prakash, HPCC working president Kuldeep Sharma and former power minister Venod Sharma also addressed the partymen.
