UoP to host SAMPADA 2008

In an age when not many students opt for research in fundamental sciences, the second International Symposium on Advanced Materials and Polymers for Aerospace and Defence Applications 2008 to be held in December in the city, is expected to motivate students.

Scientists from China, Japan, Europe and Singapore to attend

In an age when not many students opt for research in fundamental sciences, the second International Symposium on Advanced Materials and Polymers for Aerospace and Defence Applications SAMPADA 2008 to be held in December in the city, is expected to motivate students.

Apart from technical deliberations by the delegates, the conference will see international scientists from China, Japan, Europe, Indonesia and Singapore. It will also have open lectures for students of X, XI and XII on physics and mathematics.

Dr Narendra Jadhav, Vice Chancellor of University of Pune UoP 8212; which will host the conference held from December 8 to 12 8212; said, 8220;This conference will also pave way for collaborative international research,8221; he said.

The conference will have 200 paper presentations, 150 of which are from India. There will be three plenary sessions, three key note speeches, presentations by product specialists. 8220;Students will also get an opportunity to give oral presentation during this session,8221; said Dr Rohitkumar Vora, chairman of the conference.

Professor Shankar Patil, head of physics department of UoP said that while the faculty is capable to interact with international scientists and update themselves, 8220;this is a rare opportunity for students to interact with international scientists.8221; Delegates from Department of Navy, USA, Department of Air Force, USA and National Aeronautics and Space Administration NASA will attend the conference.

The theme of the conference is 8216;Emerging trends in advanced materials8217; that will cover high performance and smart materials, speciality chemicals and polymer materials, multi-compositional and nano materials, design, synthesis, characterisation, processing, engineering and reliability testing methodologies and technology in defence and aerospace and intellectual property IP of state-of-the-art materials, polymers and technologies.

The conference is jointly organised by Materials Research Society of India MRSI, Department of Physics of UoP, Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology C-MET, National Chemical Laboratory NCL, Defence Institute of Advanced Technology DIAT, Asian Office of Aerospace Research and Development -Tokyo, Air Force Office of Scientific Research, Department of Air Force, USA, Office of Naval research Global ONR-Global, Science and technology, Department of Navy, USA, Defence Research and Development Organisation DRDO and Reliance Industries Limited.
