MANCHESTER, JAN 29: Mike Tyson was outweighed by 9.4 kilos by Julius Francis at the weigh-in, but he smirked at his British opponent and stole the show by flashing one million pounds worth of jewelery while standing on the scales.
Francis scaled 110.9 kg, while the former World heavyweight boxing champion weighed in at 101.5 kg. The two will fight on Saturday night at the men arena in downtown Manchester.
As soon as he stepped onto the scales on Friday evening, Tyson began twirling his hair with his left hand. It appeared to be a deliberate attempt to show off the diamond encrusted watch and bracelet he bought last week at a jeweler8217;s in London. Tyson also sported a huge necklace.
As the two fighters stood staring at each other for photographers, Tyson smirked and appeared to have trouble trying not to laugh. Tyson eventually turned away, while Francis held his stare.8220;He8217;s kind of fat,8221; Tyson said.
8220;He can8217;t hit me with his eyes. I8217;m cool, I8217;m relaxed and I8217;m ready to fight.8221;The weigh-in wasdelayed an hour until after the rest of the undercard boxers had been on the scales. Tyson then arrived four minutes before the rescheduled time and was made to wait 13 minutes until Francis, the British heavyweight champion, arrived.
During the delay, the only moment of drama occurred when a table collapsed under the weight of photographers and reporters. No one was hurt.Eventually, Francis arrived wearing the same headphones and wrap-around shades he wore at Thursday8217;s head-to-head news conference. The British fighter wore them throughout the news conference as if he didn8217;t want to hear what Tyson had to say.Tyson is a huge favourite. Few observers expect Francis to last more than three rounds.
Judge kayoes request: A New York judge has denied a request by boxer Orlin Norris, who wanted 2 million about Rs 860 lakhs in damages from Mike Tyson8217;s purse from his bout against Julius Francis in England.
Norris lost to Tyson on October 23 and contends he was assured a rematch if he said the latehit he took from Tyson during their bout was accidental.The bout was declared a no-contest.Norris says he reluctantly agreed to speak on Tyson8217;s behalf because Shelly Finkel, the former heavyweight champion8217;s boxing adviser, promised Norris an immediate rematch in return for the favour.
Norris8217; lawyer, Judd Burstein, also asked for a temporary restraining order to stop the Tyson-Francis bout in Manchester. But Cozier denied that, too.
Tyson8217;s lawyer, Jerry Bernstein, said no deal exists between the two fighters.8220;This is a ludicrous claim and we8217;ll be filing a motion to dismiss,8221; he said. 8220;There8217;s no written evidence at all, and that8217;s what the judge relied on.8221;
