Two more behind bars, 1 at large

Two of the five accused, who allegedly kidnapped a German national from Hotel Taj GVK and molested her on Sunday, surrendered in the district courts around 4 pm on Wednesday. The two, identified as Sukhwinder Singh alias Sukhi 23 and Maninder Singh Jolly 24, were remanded in police custody for two days by the chief judicial magistrate.

Of the five, 20-year-old Pankaj, was arrested on Monday while Harpreet Singh alias Dalli was arrested on Tuesday.

The last accused, Sompal, is still absconding. Jolly was the one who approached the victim first while Pankaj and Harpreet dropped her at Sector 20 later, said police.

Sukhi and Jolly surfaced in court today soon after Harpreet was remanded to two days in police

custody. Both had scratches on their arms and appeared with muffled faces. They were sent for a medical examination to Government Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, late on Wednesday evening. Jolly suffers epileptic fits sometimes, said his defence counsel.

According to the Ambala police, both the accused are drug addicts and have several cases of narcotics possession registered against them. Reportedly, the duo is also facing trial in another case of kidnapping at Ambala.

In their statements to the police, Jolly and Sukhi said they came to Chandigarh on Saturday evening along with Sompal, Pankaj and Harpreet. They had drinks at a liquor vend in Kaimbwala village and then went to Hotel Taj 8220;just to hang around8221;.

Jolly told the police that they saw a foreigner standing in the parking lot and he went to talk to her.

8220;After a brief conversation about her name and nationality, the girl asked us to let her drive the Scorpio, to which we agreed. She sat in the driving seat and we all drove off from the hotel,8221; said Sukhi in his statement to the police.

According to the police, after driving for a while, the girl got nervous and wanted to return to the hotel but the youth refused.

The accused kept mum when asked how the girl sustained bite marks and injuries all over her body.

Sompal, who is still absconding, is considered the most notorious among the lot by the police. He is facing trial in an attempt to murder case, said a police officer.

8220;Raids are on at various places in Haryana and we hope to nab Sompal soon,8221; said a police officer.
