After the initial mishandling of the chucking issue over Gujarat off-spinner Mohnish Parmar, the BCCI finally appears to have learnt its lesson. Advise has come in that the bowler be kept out of competition for at least two months. The Indian Express first reported about International Cricket Council (ICC) blacklisting the India under-19 bowler following the colts World Cup at Colombo last February for suspect action. And after making Parmar go through rectification at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) at Bangalore two weeks back, the BCCI wants to keep the player out of competitive cricket and he should be missing India’s tour of England in July. NCA senior coach Raghuram Bhatt, who helped Parmar get his dodgy action rectified, commented from Bangalore about his “surprisingly fast improvement” and is “nearly ready” for action, while this daily accessed all the video clippings of Parmar’s action at the NCA based on which the report was prepared for the BCCI. “In four to five days’ time, Parmar’s action underwent a clear change. In fact, it came as a surprise for me, given the speed with which he adapted to the altered action that is now well within the specified laws on degrees of chucking,” Bhatt said. In his report to the BCCI, Bhatt advised the Board officials to give the youngster a minimum of “two-month break from any form of competitive cricket”.
