Among the first events organised at a private school in the Maninagar area here after the institute was recently taken over by the state government by appointing the District Education Officer (DEO) as its administrative officer, a career counselling session was arranged for students of the ICSE Board on Wednesday.

Maninagar MLA Amul Bhatt addressed the students and Khokhra ward councillors were also present, along with officials from the District Education Office. Students also took a pledge not to use Chinese kite string (majha) and to protect birds during Uttarayan later this month.

Several organisations have got together to celebrate the 41st birthday of Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Thursday where Surat’s Diamond hospital has announced free OPDs and deliveries. A government release said those becoming parents to a second daughter would get a Rs one lakh bond at the hospital. Religious tours for senior citizens, free meals and blankets for those living on the footpaths, while orphaned children would get sweets and kites. Over 40,000 booklets creating awareness on cyber frauds will also be distributed on the occasion.
