KOCHI, MAY 28: Two nationals of the Republic of Korea have been taken into custody for questioning in connection with the unearthing of some suspicious wooden and metal plaques opposite the southern naval command here on Thursday, according to police.

The twosome having valid travel documents were taken into custody at Palakkad late last night while they were travelling to Tamil Nadu after planting the materials here.

Initial deciphering of the inscriptions in the oval-shaped metal plaques revealed that they were some scriptures. The script was a mixture of Korean and Chinese language, police said.

The help of the Naval intelligence wing has been sought by the city police to probe further into the matter, the city Police Commissioner Mohammed Yasin told reporters here.

The incident caused panic in the naval base area here on Thursday morning with the police and explosive squad rushing to the spot after being alerted by some local people who found two strangers burying some suspicious materials in the ground near the railway track in the Katari Bagh enclave opposite to the headquarters of the southern naval command here.

However, the materials had no explosive content in them police said.
