MUMBAI, April 1: A nine-year-old boy was killed when a speeding truck hit the rickshaw in which he was travelling at Mulund this afternoon.

Police said the incident took place at 2.45 pm near Sindhi Pada, Amar Nagar, on Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg under the jurisdiction of Mulund police station.

The boy was killed on the spot, police confirmed.

The victim, Amit Kumar Ramprasad Prajapati, was travelling in a rickshaw with his parents, when a truck coming from the opposite direction crashed against the three-wheeler. So violent was the impact of the crash that the persons seated in the rickshaw were thrown into a nearby "nullah," police added.

Amit was rushed to the nearby municipal hospital, but was declared dead before admission. His parents managed to escape with minor injuries.

Shriram Nagappa Samlur, the driver of the speeding truck, has been arrested for rash and negligent driving.

In a similar incident at Chembur, a 55-year-old pedestrian, Ramkishan Shivkaran Raghor was crushed under a speedingState Transport bus near Maharashtra Weigh Bridge on Sion-Trombay Road. Laxman Awad, the driver of the bus, has been arrested, police said.
