LUDHIANA, Dec 2: Police have arrested Usha Rani, a resident of Danesh Nagar and Prem Das, a retired clerk in the Improvement Trust here for alleged fraudulent allotment of a flat in Rishi Blamiki Nagar out of government quota.

Giving more details, Varinder Kumar, SP (HQs), who also heads Economic Offences Wing, informed that Usha Rani, whose husband Narinder Nath is alive, had submitted forged and fabricated documents in connivance with the coaccused to secure allotment of the flats, meant exclusively for widows belonging to economically weaker sections.

According to Varinder Kumar, Usha Rani had initially made an application for allotment of the flat as wife of Narinder Nath but later, on being informed that only widows were eligible for allotment under government rules, the documents submitted to the Trust were tampered with by the then dealing clerk Prem Das. Moreover, the accused had also made many other false claims like being a social worker and a government employee, the preliminary investigations revealed.

A case has been registered and further Investigation are in progress.
