BATALA, July 13: The City police have arrested two persons 8212; Sanjeev Kumar and his father, Balkishan, resident of Workshop Road, Yamunangar, in Haryana, on the charge of demanding dowry from his daughter-in-law.

The police said that Om Parkash Chachowalia, a resident of Gurunanak Nagar, had lodged a complaint stating that his daughter, Monika, was married to Sanjeev Kumar two years ago. Her in-laws were demanding dowry and had also beaten up Monika several times for her failure to do so.

The police said that a case under Section 498 had been registered following an inquiry conducted by DSP City Chander Kailash Sharma last month. A police party arrested Sanjeev Kumar and Balkishan during a raid conducted on their home at Yamunanagar. Sanjeev Kumar8217;s grandfather Rajpal was still absconding.

Justice Ramesh Kumari, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, remanded them to judicial custody and sent them to district jail, Gurdaspur, till July 16.
