NEW DELHI, MAY 16: A 25-year-old man was stabbed to death by four or five unidentified persons in Chauhan Bangar on the Jafrabad main road in Seelampur, north-east Delhi on Sunday. The man, Zulfikar, was reportedly attacked by unidentified assailants on the main road around 8.15 p.m. The assailants dragged him into a dark alley in Chauhan Bangar, where they allegedly stabbed him. They even reportedly used a sword. He was rushed to GTB hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. According to the police, Zulfikar was involved in criminal cases and was also known as a bad character in the area. And though the cause of the murder is yet to be ascertained, the police are suspecting personal enmity.

Man caught stealing car stereo
The Kirti Nagar police have arrested a drug addict reportedly in the act of trying to steal a car stereo. Raj Kumar, a resident of Hanuman Mandir in Connaught Place, is said to have broken the windows of a Maruti car, parked in B block, Kirti Nagar. After his arrest, Kumar revealed that he had intended to steal the car stereo and sell it. The police believe he needed money to buy more drugs.

Ensure power to water treatment plants8217;
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vijai Kapoor has directed the Delhi Vidyut Board DVB to ensure uninterrupted power supply to all water treatment plants and booster-pumping stations in the city. He also asked the DVB to station breakdown repair units at all the plants so that there is 8220;little delay in restoring8221; water supply.

Two fairs at Pragati Maidan
The Social Development Fair and Consumerex 99 have begun at the Pragati Maidan. The two exhibitions will be on till May 23 and the exhibitors included State and Central Government departments and agencies and non-governmental organisations. For the benefit of visitors, entry charges have been waived, Indian Trade Promotion Organisation said.

Junior Engineer Association of Delhi Jal Board has announced that its members would take mass casual leave May 19 and 20 and going on an hunger strike from May 26. Their demands include stoppage of direct recruitment of assistant engineers and regularisation of ad hoc junior engineers.

Around 100 Blueline bus operators who have not been issued permits by the transport authorities so far have threatened to commit suicide if no action was taken immediately. The operators said that though they had deposited their permits before the state transport authority six months ago the DTC was yet to issue them permits under its new km scheme. Their buses were idle though they had also deposited Rs 5,000 each as initial payment, the operators who have united under the Delhi Private Bus Operators Association said.
