Musician Sachin Gupta goes ahead of his band Mrigya innbsp;his Bollywood debutnbsp;
Delhi musician Sachin Gupta, 27, shifted to Mumbai two years ago, but only once he was convinced that he had a future in Bollywood. Now with the release of Dil Kabaddi, starring Irrfan Khan and Soha Ali Khan, Gupta8217;s debut into the mainstream movie circuit sees him going several steps ahead of his original plan of making it just as a composer. In this film, he8217;s also a lyricist and a singer. 8220;Composing for me is not only about making melodies. My music is inspired by life8217;s realities,8221; says Gupta, who is also the lyricist for Ehsaan.
Gupta8217;s tryst with Bollywood began when he made promotional tracks for the Jimmy Shergill- Kay Kay starrer Strangers, released last year, but he really plunged into films with the five-track album Dil Kabaddi. The compilation boasts of everything, from the upbeat reggae track Utha le to the Sufi-meets-rock Zindagi ye with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. 8220;The good thing about films is that it lets a musician put together a variety of sounds under one crown, 8221; he says.
A former member of Delhi8217;s fusion band Mrigya, Gupta was discovered by TIPS films8217; vice-president, Rajiv Sogani, in London. He entered a different league after his compositions for Atif Aslam8217;s Doorie became a hit. Since then he has composed for artists like Apache Indian, Alisha Chinnoy and Mika, and is currently working on two new bands 8212; Ni9NE and Rooh 8212; that will be introduced in the coming months. But if the soundtrack of his first film is anything to go by, Gupta will be a regular in Bollywood.
