CHANDIGARH, Nov 23: As expected most of the seeded players scored victories over their respective opponents to move into the next round matches in singles event in both the boys and girls groups in the ongoing 61st Stroh’s Junior National and Inter-State table tennis championship at the Sector 23 Indoor Table Tennis Hall, here today.

Top seed Anal Kashyap of Petroleum Sports Control Board Academy (PSCBA) outplayed Hardik of Gujarat 21-17, 21-13 while his team mate Sukanta Das, who is second seed here, beat Ramit Singla (Chandigarh) 21-9, 21-17, to enter the next round.

In the girls category, top seed Poulami Ghatak (Bengal) and second seed Mamta Prabhu of Maharashtra also sailed into the next round of the meet.

Meanwhile, the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) have decided to amend its constitution in the next general body meeting which is expected to take place in December’s first week during the Senior National meet which is slated to be held in Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh). "As of now we think (TTFI) that some changes should be made in the constitution (TFI) which can curb overage in various age categories in the national meets," disclosed Mool Chand Chowhan, secretary, TTFI who arrived here today.

At present, the TTFI constitution does not permit to have a medical screening committee at the national meet. "The medical board, if set up would check overage players to some extent from participating," said the secretary.

In the ongoing junior national meet, Bengal Table Tennis Association (BTTA) filed a writ petition in the Calcutta High Court which directed the TTFI to allow some of the Bengal players, who were allegedly overage, to participate in the junior national meet here. The TTFI had to respect the court order and allowed the players to participate.

The secretary, however, was optimistic that after the amendment they would be able to take stern action against the state units fielding overage players.
