
MYSORE, OCT 23: Here is a businessman who trades in soiled notes, only to bundle it and pump fresh mint into circulation. G S Jain is on a crusade to eliminate the bane of Mysore 8212; soiled and torn notes.
Jain, who finds it hard to get change in good condition when dealing with customers at his shop on Chamundipuram, has now taken up the task of clearing the soiled 8220;loads of notes from Mysore8221;. The secretary of Nivasigala Hitharakshana Samithi and Sri Jain Dadawadi realised the possibility of exchanging soiled notes when he was admitted to a Bangalore hospital recently. He changed Rs 14,000 in torn notes at the Reserve Bank next to his hospital and from then it struck him 8220;to clear Mysore of its soiled curse8221;.
However, the amount he brought from Bangalore in fresh mint did not last long, and he had to approach Hotel Owners Association for change of Rs 5,000 and raised Rs 2,000 from Sri Jain Padawadi.
Clad in a dhoti and a shirt, Jain could be seen in market places in the city, Nanjumalige andAgrahara, between 6 am and 11 am, collecting soiled notes from vegetable vendors, petty shops and others. He walks along the road with a box of coins and a bag flung on his shoulders to dump the soiled notes. Later he kicks off his second round from 4 pm to 6.30 pm.
He has so far collected Rs 30,000 in soiled and torn notes.
8220;I have planned to collect soiled notes from ashrams and temples with the help of my staff as soon as the RBI provides coins,8221; he said.
