CHENNAI, August 2: The help rendered by an autorickshaw driver to two accident victims, despite hurdles put up by various quarters, resulted in one life being saved. Two young men, Lokeswaran and Thulasidas, were travelling by scooter on the Sengundam highway when their vehicle collided with a sand-laden lorry. Passers by, ignoring the plight of the severely hurt youth, attacked the lorry driver, but the passing autorickshaw driver put the two victims in his vehicle and rushed them to the Ambattur Police Station. Here, he was told to take them to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, a good distance away. On arrival at the hospital, he was told by doctors that the institution lacked the facilities to treat the two victims. Undeterred, the driver, Chandrasekharan, took his passengers to the Government General Hospital. Lokeswaran was declared dead on arrival, but Tulasidas was saved by medical attention.
