January 25, 2005, could be 55-year-old Trulku Tenzin Delek’s last day. The Chinese government is likely to execute the death penalty of the spiritual leader of the Tibetans on that day. But various Tibetan organisations have taken up his cause and are fighting every bit to save his life. On December 2, 2002, the Kardze Intermediate People’s Court sentenced Delek and his disciple, Lobsang Dhondup, to death for allegedly causing ‘‘explosion and inciting separatism’’. The Tibetan Center for Human Rights and Democracy has begun a nationwide campaign to have his sentence reversed. Seeking the intervention of the UN, they are urging people to send telegrams and e-mails in support of Delek. The organisation has also released an eight page brochure entitled ‘Save Trulku Tenzin Delek from Execution’.
