PANCHKULA, AUG 3: Following widespread pressure and protests in connection with the rape case of the 14-year-old girl on July 15, the District Police today arrested three persons, suspected to be involved in the incident. Massive search operations were launched in the township and Pinjore.

Talking to Newsline, Superintendent of Police Alok Mittal said that those arrested are Manoj Sharma and Rajesh, both residents of Pinjore, and the third person 8211; Vijay Sharma 8211; is a resident of Panchkula. The SP said that the three were working as apprentices at the HMT, Pinjore.

While one is suspected to be the main accused, the other two are suspected to be involved in the case. Yesterday the police had arrested Basasar Ram from Pinjore, who is suspected to have played a major role in the incident. The arrests have been made on the basis of the victims8217; statement. According to sources, the girl was initially kept in a room in Pinjore and was then taken to the Civil Aviation Club boys hostel where she was allegedly gang raped repeatedly by around eight men.

Installation ceremony held
Lion Jaswinder Singh and Lioness Harcharan Kaur were officially installed as the presidents of the Lions Club Panchkula Central and Lioness Club Panchkula Central, respectively, for 1999-2000, at an installation ceremony of the Lions Club of Panchkula Central, on Sunday.

Earlier, the club presented track suits to the Institute of Blind cricket team, sewing machines to the Indira Colony anganwadi and a steel almirah to the Haryana Public School, Sector 10, here.

The Lions also planted 125 saplings in the Indira Colony Government Primary School campus.
