
KULLU, August 10: The neighbouring tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti has registered a sudden spurt in the incidents of burglaries over the last few months, according to reports received here.
The incidents of burglaries have occurred at Keylong, the district head quarters besides Jahlama, Shansha, Lot and Taljuni villages. The latest incident occurred in Shansa village, when one Roshan Lal took away 120 gm of silver, 30 gm golden jewellery, a necklace and Rs 13,000 in cash Besides, the thieves made an abortive bid to burgle the house of Hira Lal, a contractor, and a female health worker Tashi Palki at the same village.
Similarly, jewellery and cash were stolen from the house of Bir Singh at Jahlama village despite a police post being located at the village. Five incidents of burglary took place at Keylong in the month of July. One Namgyal of Upper Keylong lost jewellery and cash after his house was burgled. Locks were found broken at two government primary schools at Keylong and a government high school at Lot where the thieves are suspected to be taking shelter. The local police have intensified their efforts to nab the thieves.
Plea to repair roads: The residents of Kanyal, a remote village in the upper valley of the district, have urged the government to immediately undertake the repairs of Rangri-Kanyal link road between Simsa and Kanyal villages.
