At the release of the Hindi translation of Mani Shankar Aiyar8217;s book Remembering Rajiv, the reporters present rushed to Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil occupying the front row to get his reaction on Jammu and Kashmir. The exchange between the minister and the reporters went somewhat like this:

Q. Sir, how is the situation in the Valley?

Hello, how are you?

Q. Sir, would you please say something on Jammu, which is up in flames?

Is this any way to ask a question with securitymen cordoning off the minister from the teeming reporters?

Q. Can we all the assembled television journalists request you to give us a byte, Sir, before you leave?

Rajiv ji was a man much ahead of his times. His ideas will continue to inspire us for all times to come.
