This was India8217;s first loss in the tournament. After this they won seven straight matches to enter the final where they were once again humiliated by the Aussies.

At Port Elizabeth: Tri-series Oct 17, 2001
Before this game India had recorded an easy win over Kenya, who were shot out for 90. But things changed after the loss as the Indians lost to South Africa in the next game.
Sri Lanka 299-5 beat India 54
At Sharjah: Champions Trophy final October 29, 2000
The loss saw the start of India8217;s lean patch in ODIs. Vaas and Murali ran through the Indian line-up as Lanka won the Cup.
