MUMBAI, Aug 27: An established Thane-based builder committed suicide on Wednesday night sending shockwaves in the builders community of Mumbai and Thane.

Around 10.30 pm, Gruhnath Singh Thakur 48 of Anand Construction and Builders, shot himself to death at his Moti Patel Road residence at Bhayander west.

According to the police, Thakur used his licenced .32 bore Wembley and Scott revolver and shot himself in his head. The bullet that entered from right side made an exit from the left, killing Thakur instantly.

Senior inspector of the Bhayander police station, P B Niphade, said that prima facie evidence suggest Thakur killed himself due to heavy losses in his business especially due to the ongoing slump in real estate market.

Besides, Thakur had reportedly sustained major losses in other businesses as well. Originally hailing from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, Thakur had begun construction business in the eighties. So far Thakur had completed construction on three major complexes in the Mira-Bhayander stretch.Since the real estate business had collapsed in Mumbai, Thakur had begun investing in other businesses as well. Several lakhs of Thakur8217;s finances were locked in chit funds, films and construction units in Kanpur region, the police said.

Moreover, the police have discovered that Thakur had drinking problem and he was also suffering from various illnesses including arthritis.The superintendent of the Thane rural police, Ashok Kamte said, 8220;There is definitely no foul play in the incident. Thakur8217;s mental and physical condition could be one of the causes of death. Also financial problems cannot be ruled out.8221;

Thakur did not leave any suicide note. He is survived by two sons. 8220;We are making further investigations,8221; Kamte said.
