MUMBAI, FEBRUARY 17: Rallying for Sena candidate Dinaz Patrawala, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray has blamed the Congress rule for all the 8220;evils in the country8221; and also for the death of former Congressman Marzban Patrawala.
Addressing a rally at the Colaba market as part of his campaign for the assembly elections in Colaba constituency on Thursday evening, Thackeray played to the galleries, garnering support for Dinaz Patrawala.
Talking highly of the former Congressman, he said: 8220;Colaba does not belong to the government. It belonged to Marzban Patrawala and after his death it is her Dinaz right to take her husband8217;s place, just like Rajiv Gandhi took Indira8217;s and Sonia took Rajiv8217;s. If they can, why can8217;t Dinaz, after all it is her janamsidhhh adhikar.8221;
In his characteristic style, Thackeray added: 8220;A government should give the people what they want and not just fill their coffers. But that is exactly what they the Congress have been doing for the last 50 years8230; They are responsible for all the corruption, for the communal riots, mismanagement, bad economy, everything.8221;
Comparing the Congress government with 8220;an unfaithful dog8221;, Thackeray said: 8220;When they need food, they come wagging their tail and when it is time to guard the place they go elsewhere, leaving the house open to intruders.8221;
The 20,000-odd people who had gathered to hear Thackeray at Colaba market cheered as he spoke. His hour-long speech was punctuated with loud sloganeering, clapping and constant cheering.
As a parting shot, Thackeray accused the Congress for advocating Valentine8217;s Day celebrations. Saying that they were not spreading the right attitude, he said the Sena truly understood Indian culture and were the right people to spread it around.
