After almost two weeks of virtual inactivity in the Emerald Island, the Indian team is back— disappointed but not disheartened over the washout series, and definitely relieved to get the snug and dry feel of the Capital.
And rather than sitting pretty at home to what has been an extended vacation, coach Greg Chappell wants a short-duration cricket camp to get his boys ready for the busy season ahead. The exact time (expected to be the first week of September), duration and venue of the camp will be announced soon.
The Indian team arrived in two batches, with five of them — Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Mohammad Kaif and Suresh Raina landing in the Capital on an evening flight while others preferred Chennai as their destination before dispersing to their respective centres.
Talking to reporters at the airport, Harbhajan reiterated Chappell’s words that this tour brought in a lot of positives despite not getting cricket under their belt. “We had a long series of meetings and we got to know inputs about each other and discussed a lot about our game and approach which we couldn’t have during normal cricket time. It’s disappointing that we couldn’t play much and I am now looking forward to the camp and gearing up for the next series.”
Yuvraj Singh also expressed similar views, saying, “I was hoping to get a few good knocks but what happened there was beyond our control. I am not disheartened and am looking forward to the next series.”
