TC arrested for taking money from commuter

A woman ticket checker TC was caught red handed by vigilance officials of Central railway CR at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus CST, while taking money from a commuter who was allegedly travelling without a ticket. The TC was caught while the CR8217;s vigilance officers were carrying out checks to monitor cash being paid to railway officials and other cases of corruption at the station.

Sangita Singh, was posted as a TC at Dadar station. However, on Tuesday, Singh was on replacement duty at CSTM. When she saw a lady with two children travelling without a ticket, she demanded Rs 762 from her. The lady paid her Rs 700. An official on condition of anonymity said, 8220;As Ms Singh realised that the vigilance staff was watching her, she returned Rs 400 to that lady and then made a receipt of Rs 260 but tore it. When vigilance officer, SR Tripathi, came to her, the remaining Rs 40 was also not with her.8221; Vigilance officers have recorded her statement. Singh accepted that she purchased bottles of milk from a railway shop and gave the amount of Rs 40 to the shopkeeper.

Railway sources said, 8220;The victim is a homely lady. As she did not know the rules and regulations, she was going to purchase ticket from the booking window near the administrative building, using platform number 1. Meanwhile she was caught by the TC. Actually in these circumstances, there was no intention to defraud. The TC should have helped her purchase the ticket. Most of the TCs do not follow the rules. And in this case, the TC herself was trapped by vigilance officers.8221;

S Mudgerikar, chief public relations officer, Central railway, said, 8220;She nbsp;was caught by vigilance officers. Vigilance department conducts regular preventive checks. Further investigations will be conducted in this case.8221;
