Taslima should be given asylum: BJP

Taslima Nasreen, who is seeking shelter in India, got support from an unusual quarter -- the BJP.

.

Controversial Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen, who is seeking shelter in India, on Wednesday got support from an unusual quarter 8212; the BJP.

The saffron party said Nasreen, against whom several Muslim outfits had issued fatwas, should be granted permanent visa and asylum just like the Dalai Lama.

The main Opposition party8217;s argument was that several anti-Hindu writers have been granted asylum in the country in the name of freedom of expression.

BJP Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha, V K Malhotra, said this while reacting to the All India Minority Forum8217;s shutdown in Kolkata to protest Nandigram violence and press for Nasreen8217;s expulsion.

He said while the BJP was of the view that the protest on Nandigram was legitimate, it was against the ouster of Nasreen.

Malhotra said West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya should apologise for saying that he was a CPM man first and Chief Minister second and talking about paying back in the same coin regarding the Nandigram violence.

8220;His government should be dismissed if he does not apologies,8221; he added.
