DHARAMSHALA, Oct 8: The half-baked Tanda Medical College is in the eye of a storm again. This time, the protest is from the students side. All the 50 students of the lone batch of Medical college yesterday boycotted classes, and sat in dharna outside the deputy commissioner8217;s office here demanding 8220;secure career without any political conceptions and misconceptions8221; and an end to the deadlock over recognition of the college by Medical Council of India. 8220;In case, there is no quick decision on the fate of Tanda Medical college, we strongly demand from the state government that we should be shifted to other Medical colleges without any effect on our academic session,8221; the students said.
In a memorandum submitted to the Kangra DC, the Tanda Medical College students threatened to go on hunger strike in front of secretariat in Shimla if the government remained indifferent and failed to take note of their educational insecurity, at the earliest. With placards in hand saying, 8220;We are students and have nothing to do scapegoats for political interest,8221; the protestors, including the girl students, said, 8220;We are in great dilemma about our future. We had taken session here, thinking that it is a government institution, things would be alright soon. But to our shock, the Tanda Medical College is becoming more and more messed up affair with each day passing.8221; They cribbed that many among the Tanda Medical College students had got admission in different medical and engineering colleges elsewhere, but they wanted to take the opportunity to study at this much publicised medical intitution.
8220;Besides this, the students who had low merit and were given admission in Himachal Pradesh Dental College are now much more comfortable in their career,8221; the protestors commented, urging Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal to fulfill his promise of permanent adjustment of the Tanda Medical College students on priority, which he had said with reference to the Shimla Medical College when he visited the Tanda Medical College complex about two months ago.
The medicos, however, were satisfied with the facilities at the college as per the requirements of their batch currently. They seemed disillusioned with the attitude of the authorities who are conducting classes in the college regularly without bothering about the grudges and tension of the students on the recognition issue. 8220;Strangely, we were once asked in August to leave the college for three days suddenly without any reason. Later, we came to know that the MCI team was to visit Tanda premises those days and the college high-ups did not want us to meet the MCI people,8221; they revealed.
