
CHENNAI, Oct 21: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi will attend the first meeting of chief ministers under the aegis of the Cauvery River Water Authority convened by Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee on October 28 in New Delhi.
An official release here said an invitation to attend the meeting had been received yesterday. Invitations have also been sent to chief ministers of Karnataka, Kerala and Pondicherry, the release said.
The Authority, with the PM as chairman and CMs of the riparian states as members, was constituted monitor implementation of the Cauvery Waters Disputes Tribunal’s interim order.
At the first meeting attended by the Chief Secretaries of the four states, Tamil Nadu had contended that this year, there had been a shortfall of 19 tmc feet in the water released from Karnataka. But Karnataka stated it had released 2.5 tmc to 3 tmc ft in excess of the quantity specified by the Tribunal.
