PMC extends deadline till Dec 3 for citizen submissions on electoral rolls

The civic election department had also pointed out that in some cases, voters from outside the city limits were also on the electoral rolls.

With complaints pouring in of errors in electoral rolls prepared for the forthcoming municipal corporation elections, the deadline for citizens to submit their suggestions and objections of the electoral rolls has been extended till December 3 by the State Election Commission.

Earlier this month, the Pune Municipal Corporation had admitted there were three lakh double entries of voters in electoral rolls. It had also received multiple complaints about voters being shifted from electoral wards of their residential locality to other wards.

The civic election department had also pointed out that in some cases, voters from outside the city limits were also on the electoral rolls.

“The state election commission has revised the program of electoral roll finalisation and extended the deadline for citizens to submit their objections till December 3 as against the earlier date of November 27,” said Prasad Katkar, election department of PMC incharge.

On Monday, a delegation of political parties including NCP(SP), Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress, MNS, AAP and Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi submitted a memorandum to the civic body urging for the elections not to be held until the electoral rolls are free of errors. “The PMC has already admitted to double the entry of three lakh voters. Many voters’ names have been included in the electoral rolls far away from their residential localities. It seems the administration is working for the ruling alliance in the state government,” said city NCP(SP) chief Prashant Jagtap after meeting the PMC officers.

He had said it would be wrong to continue with this error-filled electoral roll for the civic polls and that only eight days were given for citizens to submit their suggestions and objections on electoral rolls.

Former BJP corporator Ujjwal Keskar and Shiv Sena (UBT) corporator Prashant Badhe had written to PMC to make the electoral rolls error free. “If a voter shows as them being enrolled done away from their residential locality in another ward, then the turnout might get affected,” they said.

The civic body has urged citizens to search for their name in the electoral rolls to make necessary changes.

Meanwhile, the state election commission has empowered the civic administration to make possible rectification in electoral rolls after verification.

Civic deputy election officer Prasad Katkar said that the citizens can verify their name at https://mahasecvoterlist.in/ObjectionOnClick/SearchName and reach out to the civic body if any correction in a name or location is required.

As per the new programme, the final polling electoral rolls according to booths will be published on December 22 instead of December 12.
