GURDASPUR, Oct 5: A lecture on 8220;Nuclear Power India versus the World8221;, was delivered by Avtar Singh Sidhu, a physics teacher at Government College, Gurdaspur, at a function organised by Bharat Vikas Parishad, Gurdaspur, at the local Panchayat Bhavan yesterday evening.

Gurpreet Deo, SP Headquarters, presided over the function and local Akali MLA Kartar Singh Pahra was the chief guest.

Justifying the May 11 and 13 Pokhran nuclear explosions, Sidhu said that it was essential for India to become a nuclear power from the security point of view. If both India and Pakistan possessed nuclear weapons, any future conflicts would be removed fearing mutual destruction, he said.

Deo, Pahra and others spoke on atomic power.
