8226; I salute you for making the murder of Satyendra Dubey a national issue. But Dubey8217;s killing cannot be compared to that of Bhagat Singh, as some readers have done in their letters. We must remember Bhagat Singh was hanged by the British; Satyendra Dubey has been killed by our own system. This the greater tragedy.
We often, and shamelessly, blame the system. But who is the system, what is the system? Don8217;t we, the citizens, bear a responsibility to our society? Why do we allow ourselves to be suppressed by the devils within?
Given today8217;s conditions, I think Dubey8217;s sacrifice is greater than Bhagat Singh8217;s. I am not slighting Bhagat Singh, I am only trying to place the Dubey incident in its context.
Just one more thing, the media and the often reflects on the negative points of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Don8217;t forget, these areas also produce people like Satyendra Dubey.

8226; It is disheartening how the government and the Surface Transport Ministry have brought out advertisements to defend their lapses in the Dubey case.
Bribery and corruption are not new. The 8216;8216;system8217;8217; has not been vitiated all of a sudden. Yet India has tolerated it all. I hope Dubey8217;s sacrifice too does not go in vain. It is time for every Indian to ask himself: what am I going to clean the system?
Support your newspaper. Vote consciously. Back an NGO. Work as a watchdog. Come out on the streets and demonstrate.

8226; Everyone talks of corruption and of how pathetic the situation is. This is just a way of transferring blame. If our country lies in such a state, it is because of us.
I bet not a single honest person in our society would be willing to join politics. If a handful of committed senior citizens form a political party, surely they will win some success? But will even my father, a retired university professor, do that?
One route out is to put together a strong group of IIT professors and alumni. Many of them are in influential positions. If only they can be woken up.

8226; Shouldn8217;t we also focus on the quality of road construction in this country? Why is it that the department of roads is the most sort after portfolio in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, indeed, in any state government? Why do roads constructed in a particular year invariably get washed away by the next monsoon?
I8217;m no economic policy expert but the type of reforms that freed the telecom sector are needed in roads too. The publicity given to the Dubey murder may ensure the Golden Quadrilateral follows first-class norms 8212; but there are other roads in this country.
