Accusing rebel MP Raj Babbar of anti-party activities, the Samajwadi Party today suspended the actor-turned-politician from the party.
Babbar8217;s suspension comes a day after he was suspended from the SP8217;s parliamentary party. There are indications that he may be expelled soon, party sources said.
The party8217;s disciplinary action committee, headed by senior leader Kalyan Jain, has been given a week to present a report on Babbar8217;s anti-party activities to party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Unruffled by the second disciplinary action, Babbar said, 8220;Let them do whatever they want to do. I am in the party, because I am emotionally attached to it8217;8217;. He dismissed charges that he was hand-in-glove with the Congress and wanted to join that party.
In a fresh attack on Amar Singh, Babbar taunted the SP general secretary by hailing BJP chief Rajnath Singh as a person with a 8216;8216;clean image8217;8217;. While Amar Singh has been promoting a 8216;8216;broker culture and has close links with criminals, the BJP has appointed Rajnath Singh as party chief, a man who enjoys a clean image and at whom nobody can point any fingers,8217;8217; Babbar said.
Asked about the possibility of a compromise with the party leadership, he said, 8216;8216;There is no question of reconciliation. Why live in a house where there is no respect.8217;8217;
Babbar, however, regretted that the party leadership had not even given him a chance to explain his side before suspending him.
The MP also announced that he would continue to contest from Agra to serve its people. 8216;8216;My concern is Agra. Right now, I will be meeting my socialist mentors and leaders to tell them what was happening in the SP,8217;8217; Babbar said.
