Panic briefly gripped the judicial establishments in Mohali and Rupnagar on Thursday after bomb threat emails were received, prompting the immediate evacuation of court complexes and suspension of court proceedings.

According to officials, the Mohali district court complex received a threatening email around 2 pm, warning that the premises would be blown up with a bomb. Acting swiftly, the police administration evacuated the entire complex and launched a thorough security sweep.

Confirming the incident, SP (City) Dilpreet Singh said, “An email threatening to blow up the district courts was received in the afternoon. Following standard protocol, the complex was immediately evacuated and searched thoroughly.” He added that teams from the bomb disposal squad, anti-sabotage unit and ARP carried out an extensive inspection of the premises.

“No suspicious object was found anywhere, and the threat has been declared a hoax,” he said.

A similar bomb threat email was received earlier in the day at the Rupnagar court complex, leading the authorities to evacuate the building as a precautionary measure. Court work was abruptly halted while security agencies conducted detailed checks.

Senior officials said that judicial officers received the threat email in the morning, following which the police were alerted and all courtrooms and offices were cleared. Rupnagar SSP Gulneet Khurana stated that an investigation had been initiated to trace the source and credibility of the threat. “Keeping the seriousness of the threat in mind, the judicial complex at Anandpur Sahib was also evacuated as a precaution,” he said.

No suspicious material has been recovered from any of the locations so far. Cyber teams have been pressed into service to identify the sender of the threatening emails.
