MUMBAI, June 15: Ultrapulse CO2 Laser, a new generation laser to be used in aesthetic surgery, was introduced at a seminar at Bombay Hospital today. The laser is expected to provide the answer to many problems that people face regarding their appearances.
Coherent-India, the company marketing the laser in India, claims that it will leave no scar on the skin after the operation. Jonathan Mallison, the managing director of the company said that seemingly impossible tasks like removing birth-marks, and muscular leashes could be done by the laser. Dr A K Gupta, the first doctor in India who owns the machine, felt that operations would be more simple with this technology. quot;An operation for removing wrinkles, which usually went on for hours, can now be done in half-an-hour,quot; he said.
The laser was introduced in USA five years ago and costs nearly Rs 55 lakh. The company claims that it will also be useful in non-aesthetic surgeries, as it heal contaminated wounds by killing the germs.The activity of the laser being only at the surface of the skin, there won8217;t be any side effects, asserted Mallison.
It can be used to treat people of all ages. It will also lead to a decrease in the recovery time of the patient. An operation to remove acne is expected to cost Rs 20,000. The symposium will continue for the next two days when various topics in the field of aesthetic surgery will be discussed.
Dr Padam Singhvi who chairs the International Medical Integration Council hoped that the use of this quot;revolutionary technology8221; would lead to quot;more number of marriages which would have been otherwise called off due to aesthetic issues and also bring down the number of divorces.quot;
