
GPCC yatra to reach Surat tomorrow
Jansampark Yatra, organised by the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee, will arrive in Surat city on Thursday afternoon, a party release issued here on Tuesday said. The yatra, which began from Porbandar in Saurashtra, would have travelled more than 7000 kms before it reaches Surat. According to City Congress chief Pratapsingh Kantharia, the rallyists would be welcomed at Sardar Statue, after which the statues of Sardar Patel, Shivaji and Dr Ambedkar on Ring road would be garlanded. GPCC president C D Patel and others will speak at a public meeting organised on Thursday to mark the occasion.
Rural visits
Regional Transport Office inspectors, in a bid to provide better facilities, will tour different talukas of the district in June and provide licences, registration and other related facilities at taluka headquarters, a release said. They will visit Sachin and Palsana on June 5, Kathor on June 10, Tadkeshwar on June 11, Olpad, Mandvi and Madhi on June 19, Kosamba on June 24, Vyara on June 11 and 25, Uchhal on June 29 and Nizar on June 30, the release added.
Scholarships
Surat Islam Yatimkhana Society has asked orphan students, living within Surat Municipal Corporation limits, to benefit from scholarships awarded by it annually. The forms are available at Society8217;s offices in Nanpura and Athwalines from 9 am to noon and from 3 pm to 9 pm. The filled forms will have to be submitted by June 30.
