Gamblers arrested
The city Detection of Crime Branch has arrested 33 people and recovered Rs 1.17 lakhs in cash in a raid carried out in the Rander area of the city. Munir Mohsin Shaikh, who ran the gambling den below Hope Pool beside Adajan Patia, and 32 others involved in gambling were taken into custody. Sources also said that besides running the gambling den, Munir sold Indian Made Foreign Liquor. Cases have been registered against all 33 by the DCB.

Disabled camp
City- based Disabled Welfare Trust and New Civil hospital doctors have jointly organised a camp at Sanatan Dharma Sewasangh Hall opposite Surat general hospital on May 22, where physically handicapped persons will be provided certified forms for rail travel. The handicapped have been requested to come with two passport sized photographs and the expired certificate to get these renewed, a release said.

RIL visit
Members of Vansva Gram Panchayat visited Reliance Industries Limited8217;s Hazira plant recently as part of the company8217;s efforts to create awareness among villagers about safety. Members of Mora, Damka, Suvali and Bhatlai gram panchayats have already visited the plant to know first hand the steps taken by RIL to prevent accidents, and the safety equipment to be used in case of emergencies.

Govt dues
District collector Sangeeta Singh has asked officials concerned to chalk out an action plan for quick recovery of government dues. Noting the huge amount of pending dues in the district, she told a meeting of the district coordination and grievance committee that each department will have to set its own monthly target for recovery. The coming meetings will review the progress of the action plan.
