Inter-school sports meet held in Hazira
An inter-school cultural and sports meet Kaleidoscope 1998-998221; was held in Bharatiya Viday Bhavan8217;s Nand Vidya Niketan Essar Township, Hazira. Six schools took part in various competitions which included folk dance, quiz, essay-writing, debate, football, volleyball, table tennis, besides other competitions. Essar Steel Director Sugandhraj inaugurated the meet besides giving away prizes to the winners. The over-all trophy for maximum participation as well as the over-all trophy for the meet was won by Sir J J English High School.

Elocution contest
Professor B V Mehta Felicitation Fund Trust organised an elocution competition on Privatisation of Insurance Sector in India8217; on Wednesday at the S P B English Medium Commerce College. Khushroo Umrigar, Rukshana Damodiwala and Vinita Pande won the first, second and third prize respectively. Additional Chief secretary Revenue Dr P L Misra delivered a talk on Power or Incentive? Reassessing Power Sector Reform and Liberalisation8217; at the South Gujarat University8217;s economic department.

New chairperson
Ranjanben Patel was appointed the chairperson of Surat Municipal Corporation8217;s Law Committee on Friday. The post fell vacant following the murder of Nita Satbhaya on December 19. Patel represents ward no 13Khatodara.

Bhajan contest
The Surat Municipal Corporation has decided to organise a Bhajan competition on January 30 to mark the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. All interested Bhajan mandalis of the city can take part in the competition. Those interested should fill the form before or on January 22. The form is available from the SMC8217;s cultural section.
