NEW DELHI, June 18: Delhi Students recorded their maiden victory in the A division league match of DSA-SAIL football championships when they defeated Royal Football Club 4-0 at the Ambedkar Stadium here today. The winners led 1-0 at the interval.

The game never rose to any dizzy heights despite the Students having an upper hand in the initial half. They kept the ball for maximum period during the session and some unimaginative shooting and equally poor finishing saw them making no progress, despite the early lead.

The trend in the second half, however, changed and for the better as Students held the whip and dealt severe blows to the morale of Royal Club.

Prem Lal gave Delhi Students the lead in the ninth minute. Thereafter, Royal defenders thwarted a couple of goal-scoring chances.

After change of ends, Students scored three more goals to seal the fate of Royal Club. Prem Lal increased the lead soon after play resumed in the second half. Arvind 48th minute and Vijay Kumar added to the tally. In another encounter scheduled for the day, State Bank of India got a walkover from Raisina Sporting Union who failed to turn up.

In a B division match at Nehru Stadium, Panchkuin drew with Delhi Tigers to share points.
