Durgesh Shukla, who hailed from Khandwa, did not name anybody in the note, but said the ragging had made him lose confidence in himself. The Indore police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against unknown persons because they were yet to find out the identity of students who allegedly ragged the 23-year-old.

Shukla stayed with his friends in a rented room near Chanakya Complex. The body was discovered by Shukla8217;s younger brother Gaurav who went there to enquire after his brother failed pick up his mobile phone.

Shukla had talked to his family about his harassment when he visited his home five days ago. His father Sunil, who reached Tukoganj Police Station late on Tuesday, said his son had described how the seniors often asked him to get liquor, cigarettes and cold drinks and occasionally asked him to press their legs. The distraught father said he had complained to the college authorities about his son8217;s ordeal, but they did not take him seriously.

The college management, however, denied the allegation, saying there was no complaint. The college even denied that ragging took place on their campus, but promised a probe by the anti-ragging committee.

Inspector Jayant Singh Rathod told The Indian Express that the police had no clue about the students responsible for Shukla8217;s death. The police are trying to get in touch with his close friends. A case under Section 306 has been registered against unknown students.

Meanwhile, ABVP activists took to the streets in protest and gheraoed the college located in Mahalaxminagar area on Wednesday. When they insisted on entering the college, the police had to use mild force to push them back.
