Govt to build memorial for 1984 riot victims
New Delhi: The Government will construct a National memorial for those killed in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in the Capital, the All India Riot Victim Relief Committee AIRVRC said on Tuesday.

8220;Home Minister L K Advani has given us the assurance of constructing a memorial structure,8221; AIRVRC President Jathedar Kuldip Singh Bhogal said. Bhogal, who led an AIRVRC delegation, said Advani also assured the members of 8220;examining8221; the pros and cons of waiving loans given to victims for rehabilitation.

8220;If the Madhya Pradesh Government had done so for misadetenues during emergency, why can8217;t the Central Government not do the same for the Sikhs,8221; the AIRVRC leader said.

NSCN for cessation of hostilities
Kohima:
The National Socialist Council of Nagaland Khaplang has announced the cessation of hostilities to enable the people in the State enter the new millennium with a 8220;hope for a better and peaceful world.8221; NSCN K Chairman S SKhaplang said, 8220;The NSCN does hereby declare a cessation of hostilities to christen the new millennium with a hope for a better and a peaceful world.8221; He said when the rest of the world was preparing for a new millennium, the Nagas must in no way suffer any suppressive activities from internal aggressors.8217;

CRPF jawan killed by colleague
Imphal: One CRPF jawan was killed by his colleague at Saingaiporou area in Manipur8217;s Imphal West district On Monday night, official sources said.

Official sources said the CRPF jawan identified as Head Constable Bin Singh 39 of Haryana was shot dead by Head Constable Amilal 37, also of Haryana at their camp. After committing the crime, Amilal tried to commit suicide by shooting himself, they said. The motive behind the killing was yet to be known, they added.

Explosives to make crackers seized
Vijayawada: Police on Tuesday seized 1,250 kgs of explosive substances and other materials used to manufacture firecrackers, from an unlicensedgodown in Bhavanipuram area in the city.

The owner of the godown was arrested in this connection. The authorities have issued a warning against stocking and selling of firecrackers by unauthorised persons, police added.
