CHANDIGARH, Jan 7: The triple murder case, in which three ladies of a house in Sector 18 were killed by the tenant and his friend on the intervening night of July 12 and 13, 1997 today came up for recording evidence of two main witnesses in the court of UT District and Sessions Judge B.S. Bedi.

It may be recalled that Pushpa Devi Chadha, her daughter-in-law and her grand daughter Geetika were killed by accused Abdul Gaffar and his friend Matloob Ahmed. The two were later arrested by the police under Sections 302, 392 and 34 of the IPC.

Salim Ahmed, main witness in the case, today deposed before the court that he had been sharing the room with Abdul Gaffar for seven months prior to the occurrence of the crime. He said that when he returned home around 10.30 pm that night, he found a blood-smeared grey pant which accused Gaffar was wearing that afternoon.

The witness also deposed that co-accused Matloob used to visit Abdul often. He identified both the accused in the court today.The Judge today also asked both Salim and Abdul to try the grey pant in question and observed that the pants almost equally fitted both of them.

Salim also deposed that he went to the house of K.S. Bhinder in whose boutique he was employed to tell him about the incident. They returned to the house and discovered the bodies of Geetikan and Uma Rani. The body of Pushpa Ranu was later discovered by the police from an iron box containing quilts. The cross examination of Salim will continue tomorrow.

During cross examination, another witness K.S. Bhinder deposed that he saw the two accused standing at the gate of house number 1235 when he was returning from the Chandigarh Club that night. He also stated that the police recovered the body of Pushpa Devi from an iron box.
