
VADODARA, Dec 23: The stage is all set for M S University student union elections to be held today, notwithstanding allegations and counter-allegations about student unions circulating pamphlets in the campus on Wednesday.
Members of the National Students of Union of India submitted a memorandum to Vice-Chancellor Anil Kane alleging that Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad ABVP members had circulated pamphlets violating the code of conduct for the elections. They have also alleged that with syndicate members like Shireesh Kulkarni a renowned ABVP in the counting committee, the possibility of miscalculations could not be ruled out.
As many as 35,000 students of 13 faculties will cast their votes from 80 booths which will be set up in different parts of the university. As many as 1,000 teaching and non-teaching staff of the university will be on election duty, besides the police, who would be deployed to prevent any untoward incident.
While pink ballot papers are for the university vice-president, white ballot paper will represent the faculty representatives and green the university general secretary.
Meanwhile, Javed Khan Jackson of the Faculty of Arts won the post of the Faculty General Secretary by defeating his nearest rival Hari Kataria by a margin of 43 votes. As many as 1,300 students voted for the election of the FGS on Wednesday. Khan bagged 437 votes. Talking to Express Newsline, Returning officer N M Bhatt said videographers would also move around the campus.
