
July 19: ST Joseph8217;s Mira Road defeated Miners Chembur 4-1 via the tie-breaker in the final of the MDFA conducted Guru Nanak tournament at the St Xavier8217;s ground, Parel, today. The two were locked goalless at the end of full-time.
Two good saves by goalkeeper Sandeep Alphonso in the tie-breaker was the highlight of St Joseph8217;s triumph.
The scorers for St Joseph8217;s in the tie-breaker were: Sunil Fernandes, Diago D8217;Souza, Ashish Sharma and Clive Cowan. Narendra Sawant scored for Miners.
In Pool A of the Second Division league, Young Challengers held Shushu Vikas to a 1-1 draw. Nandkumar Parab scored for Challengers and Tushar Chowdary for Shushu Vikas.
In yet another encounter, Personnel Search Services trounced Maharashtra Labour Welfare Board NMJ Road 4-0 in Pool B of the Second Division.Nicholas Gomes 2, Caesar Fernandes and Augustine Fernandes scored for PSS.
Prabhawalkar champ
Top seed Kedar Prabhawalkar emerged champion in the under-18 category of the Rapid Chess tournament,conducted by the Gokuldham Chess Club, at the Gokuldham High School hall, today. Aditya Bhatt finished second.
A total of 74 players participated in the event. A difficult situation arose in the under-14 category, where Sameer Thakkar and Nilesh Yeole scored five points each out of six rounds. The progressive and cut progressive of both the players were the same. Sameer Thakkar was decided as winner by means of the toss.

Faizal Khimjibhai fired a hole-in-one on the par-3, 13th on his way to winning the ClassicStripes Western India Addicts golf tournament with a brilliant plus-6 score at the Poona Club , according to reports reaching here. Khimjibhai used a five-iron off the tee to send the ball rocketing all of 167 yards. 8220;It dropped on the fringe of the green and rolled for nearly 60 feet,8221; said the 29-year-old businessman from Pune.
8220;This is my third hole-in-one and the second at this club,8221; said Khimjibhai who has also achieved the feet in Belgaum before shifting to Pune.
