NEW DELHI, Jan 6: The government is considering the creation of special purpose vehicle for funding the Rs 28,000 crore expressway and highway projects whose construction is expected to start before the end of the current fiscal.This was discussed today at the meeting of the infrastructure task force, headed by the deputy chairman Jaswant Singh with the Prime Minister.Approval was also granted to the proposal by the task force for the merger of the golden quadilateral corridors connecting the four metros with the national highways was also approved today by the Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.The work on the twenty selected points which is expected to cover 7,000 kilometres would be initiated before end of the current financial year, according to the member secretary of the task force on infrastructure projects N K Singh.The Prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had recently flagged off the ambitious project near Bangalore and the work on another 20 points of the proposed highway will start soonan is expected to be completed within next ten years.The meeting, chaired by Jaswant Singh, also discussed the progress made so far in the national highway projects as well as the different airports projects. It was also attended by surface transport minister M Thambi Durai and the civil aviation minsiter Ananth Kumar.Singh said the task force could not discuss the Kelkar report as he was not present in the meeting. The report had suggested number of ways to fund such infrastructure projects.He said that a cabinet note on the corporatisation of mumbai, Delhi and bangalore airports had already been prepared by the ministry of civil aviation. The draft rules relating to these airports would also be lined up shortly.
