SP won’t support Jethmalani: Amar

Samajwadi Party on Sunday refused to back noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani as a joint Opposition candidate against Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee from Lucknow Lok Sabha seat. ‘‘Now that all the major parties have declared their candidates from the seat there is no question of putting up a joint candidate against Vajpayee,’’ SP general secretary Amar Singh told mediapersons here.

‘‘Congress’ best friend BSP already broke the backbone of the efforts to field a joint Opposition candidate by announcing its candidate,’’ he said adding SP nominated Madhu Gupta is its candidate from the seat. —(PTI)
