Samajwadi Party (SP) general secretary Amar Singh on Wednesday claimed that UPA chairperson and Congress president Sonia Gandhi supports demand for a judicial probe into the Jamia Nagar police encounter that followed the serial terror blasts in the Capital.

“I have demanded judicial probe into the Batla House police encounter on several occasions. Sonia Gandhi supported my demand every time. I have never felt any opposition from Gandhi on this so far,” said Amar Singh while addressing mediapersons at his residence on Wednesday.

Singh said he wondered why the Government was not ready to institute a judicial probe despite Sonia’s support.

Singh’s claims hold significance when the Congress had rejected the demand for a judicial probe into the incident asking people to wait for the completion of the investigation process. A section of the Congress raised questions over the encounter after the disquiet among its minority support base.

The SP had come under attack from the BJP for its demand for a judicial probe into the Jamia encounter. Singh’s revelations comes while the Congress is trying to put the BJP on the mat for its anti-terror stand accusing the saffron party of having “direct links” with Malegaon bomb blast accused Pragya Singh.
